Urban photos of the year – in pictures

Musée de la Faïence de Marseille
The Musée de la Faïence de Marseille is a museum in southern Marseille, France, dedicated to faience, a type of pottery. It opened to the public in June 1995 in the Château Pastré at 157, avenue de Montredon 13008 Marseille.[1] It is planned to transfer the faience museum to the Château Borély, which will also hold the planned Museum of Decorative Arts and Fashion, as part of preparations for Marseille becoming the European cultural capital in 2013.[2]
The museum is housed in the magnificent nineteenth century building named after its former owner Eugène Pastré (1806-1868).[2] The chateau is at the end of a long avenue in the 120 hectares (300 acres) Campagne Pastré park, owned by the city of Marseille.[

Hackney Christmas Dinner 2014

The  aim is to provide a Christmas Day Dinner in Hackney for care leavers aged between 18 and 25 on Christmas Day. Many care leavers are sat in flats, B&B’s, hostels, away from family or are sofa surfing and indeed living on the streets on their own at Christmas. Christmas is a reminder of everything they never had. It’s often a dreaded day. Not if we can help it. We will put on a scrumptious Christmas meal and create a magical day to remember at a secret location in Hackney. This year  we will provide dinner for sixty to seventy 18-25 year old care leavers. Please share this post with as many as possible.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Grand Canal (China)

The Grand Canal (also known as the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the longest canal or artificial river in the world and a famous tourist destination.[1] Starting at Beijing, it passes through Tianjin and the provinces of Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the city of Hangzhou, linking the Yellow River and Yangtze River. The oldest parts of the canal date back to the 5th century BC, although the various sections were finally combined during the Sui dynasty (581–618 AD).

La Patisserie des Reves
La Patisserie des Reves (translating literally as The Patisserie of Dreams) is the name of the world famous French pastry shops; the brainchild of pastry chef Philippe Conticini and entrepreneur and hotelier Thierry Teyssier. With four shops already open in France, the first shop in London will open in February, bringing traditional French patisserie with a modern twist to the British capital. Their recipe book of the same name published in French in 2012 is published in English to coincide with this historic opening. The book contains over 70 recipes for their signature pastries, recipes include the traditional Saint Honore (choux pastry, cream and caramel topping) and Paris-Brest (choux pastry with praline cream and praline sauce).

Tis the season to be veggie: Christmas vegetarian recipes

Vegetarians often miss out at Christmas, which chef Tom Hunt has set out to put right. With these recipes he proves that the vegetarian option actually offers a much wider choice of festive food

ISSAYA   ( SIAMESE CLUB)
The garden at Issaya Siamese Club flourishes because of the rainy season, thus the name Issaya (which is an old Thai word for the rainy season) was chosen to pay homage to this beautiful part of nature. Issaya is the ground floor dining outlet that includes both a dining room and large outdoor terrace. The menu features Chef Kittichai’s unique signature Thai cuisine of traditional ingredients and flavors with international and progressive cooking methods. Some of Chef’s signature dishes, such as Mussuman Curry Lamb Shank (Mussuman Gae) and Jasmine Flower Flan (Kanom Dok Mali), as well as an ever-changing market menu that highlights seasonal specials, direct from the market, are the heart of the menu. Issaya also features Chef’s garden where guests can see aromatic Thai herbs grown year-round. Chef Kittichai is a pioneer in farm-to-table dining in Thailand and incorporates his purity and freshness beliefs into Issaya. Issaya also features a large private dining room and lounge area that can be reserved for large parties.
Easy Pad Thai Noodles Recipe
This recipe for Pad Thai Noodles with Shrimp is authentic and simple enough for any aspiring cook to make. The pad Thai sauce is easier to create than the more-common tamarind-based variety (most people don't realize that original pad Thai didn't contain tamarind at all, the makings of pad Thai being brought to Thailand via the Chinese). When I was last in Thailand, I went back to the same pad Thai seller everyday because of her amazing pad Thai, and it wasn't until just before I left that she told me how she makes it (a simple recipe without tamarind). If you're living in a place where Asian ingredients are difficult to find, then this [tamarind-free] recipe might just make your day. Enjoy!
